Today's Ignorant Dolt: Charlie Gibson

It's been decreed.

Charlie Gibson, of ABC News has laid down the law.

Anybody that is thinking about protesting war, getting out there, on the front lines, to advocate ending the mindless death and mutilation, the destruction of people and countries, enough already.

Don't bother, least you annoy Mr. Gibson, maybe cause his lips to purse, a wrinkle, or two, to form near his temples, and, gasp, force him to sigh.

Lord knows, we can't afford to annoy an empty suit like Charlie Gibson.

We tweaked Gibson (and ABC) last year during the debates ("Boy, And We Thought Russert and Williams Sucked", and "Charlie and George Go To A Debate ...") but who knew he was an emptier suit and closet Ignorant Dolt?

Byron York, in the Moonie Gazette, has the scoop;

ABC's Charles Gibson to Cindy Sheehan: Thanks for your sacrifice. Now get lost

In an appearance August 18 on WLS radio in Chicago, ABC News anchor Charles Gibson was asked about anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan's plans to travel to Martha's Vineyard next week, where she will protest the Iraq and Afghanistan wars while President Obama is vacationing there. Gibson, whose newscast and network featured Sheehan when she led anti-war protests outside President Bush's Texas ranch in 2005, answered, "Enough already."

This week, after the Washington Examiner reported that Sheehan will be protesting on Martha's Vineyard (see here and here), WLS radio host Don Wade, noting all the coverage that Sheehan received in 2005, asked Gibson "whether we're going to see some coverage of Cindy Sheehan…do you suppose Cindy is going to make the news again?"

Gibson's answer was sympathetic but clear: No. "I gather she's going back to Martha's Vineyard," Gibson began.

It's such a sad story. Martha Raddatz [of ABC News] wrote a terrific book about one battle that took place in Iraq, and it was the battle in which Cindy's son was killed. And you look at somebody like that and you think here's somebody who's just trying to find some meaning in her son's death. And you have to be sympathetic to her. Anybody who has given a son to this country has made an enormous sacrifice, and you have to be sympathetic. But enough already.
(You can go here, to hear Gibson, oh so painfully, piss all over Cindy Sheehan).

Those last three words - "But enough already."

You know, a real pro, likely, wouldn't have added their editorial comment as you did.

They would have something perfunctorily nice to say about Ms. Sheehan, and move on.

However, an empty-suit, Ignorant Dolt hack would stick his head up his own butt, and let loose with the diss.

Ahh, but Cindy Sheehan has handled her share of Ignorant Dolts before, and she responds to Ignorant Dolt Charlie Gibson;
“Enough already?” Hmmm…I don’t know Charlie Gibson and I don’t pay any attention to his career, but I seem to agree with him on this one: “Enough already.”

Enough with the killing, torturing, wounding and profiting off of the backs of our troops and off of the lives of the people of Iraq-Af-Pak: as our brothers and sisters in Latin America say: “Basta!”

Somehow, I don’t think that this is what Charlie Gibson meant, though. I am sure that he just wants me to go away like most of the rest of the anti-war movement has done under the Obama presidency.

[snip]

I am cutting my writing-staycation short to head to Martha’s Vineyard because I think the new titular head of the empire needs to know that his policies are devastating people as much as the same policies did when Bush was president.

I would rather be able to go away and spend the rest of my life worshipping my grandchildren, writing, reading, resting, and doing humanitarian work where I am needed.

I wish the wars would go away, but they aren’t going away if we the people don’t get more militantly insistent.
We assume ABC News (and the rest of the media) will do the dog-and-pony thing, having their "star anchors" sitting in beach chairs, broadcasting from Martha's Vineyard, during the Obama's vacation.

So, Charlie, you probably will have some down time, and you can use it to head up Route 3, back into the city and swing by The Garlic, so you can pick up your Ignorant Dolt Award.

Oh yeah, one more thing Charlie.

Until the day (God Forbid) comes, that you lose a child, a grandchild, or such, in an unnecessary war that our Government lied us into, you have no standing on editorializing as you did against Ms. Sheehan.

You have no standing, Charlie, to say to Ms. Sheehan, or any one else in her position, "But enough already."

Shame on you.

Barry Crimmins Alert: Strap Nancy Pelosi To A Table and Ship Her Out! ... Vote Cindy Sheehan!

It's been one of our most fervent wishes the past two-years, that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is plagued by nightmares.

A Tim-Burton-on-acid-meets-Disney-type nightmare, of being trapped in a store.

A table store.

Big, thick butcher block's man the exits, forcing the Bush Grindhouse enabler to travel the maze-like aisles, small end-tables nipping at her ankles, all the other tables stamping their legs, chanting "No Nancy, put it on the table ... No, Nancy, put it on the table ... No Nancy, put it on the table ..."

Well, the good folks of "Baghdad by the Bay" (a favorite moniker often used by the late, San Francisco Chronicle columnist, Herb Caen, long before the invasion and occupation), San Francisco, has that opportunity next month, to bring that closer to a reality.

And Barry Crimmins, today, gives it a push, with a resounding, call-to-arms endorsement of her challenger - Cindy Sheehan.

A snip for you;

Icing the Republican Casket

Wouldn't it be fantastic if the Dem who gets handed walking papers was the one who, speaking from a position of high authority, promised that any chance of impeaching the criminally barbarous Bush was "off the table" immediately after 2006 Congressional elections that were all about public disdain for Bush? From there that person went on stand down as our liberties were being assailed at home and as our addiction to foreign wars continued apace abroad. Then this millionaire helped spearhead a gargantuan bailout of people already awash in more cash than any of us could ever imagine. No question about it, it would be tremendous if she found herself out on a street full of Republicans on the morning of Nov 5.

Not only should Cindy Sheehan win but she really could if an influx of progressive support infuses her campaign right now. So get off your diverse buts San Francisco and get to work for Cindy Sheehan. And lefties around the country, it's time to cough up whatever you can for Cindy Sheehan. Imagine if on election night (voter suppression and ballot-rigging permitting) the Republicans get trounced from coast to coast and then the last big story of the evening is Cindy Sheehan's upset win over Nancy Pelosi.

Imagine how great November 4 will be (voter suppression and ballot-rigging permitting) if we seriously repudiate the R's and then knock off the Vichy Dem who so compromised the electoral gains of 2006 by replacing her with the legendary woman who wiped the smirk off W's face?
Strongly recommend you jump over to Barry's site and read "Icing the Republican Casket"

Then, jump of over to Cindy Sheehan's site, and do whatever you can to help her dump Pelosi

Barry Crimmins Returns ... With An Admission!

For many, yesterday wasn't a day to worry-and-wax about Hillary Clinton's speech, it was to welcome back after a brief summer break (if you want to call yard work and house painting a "break"), writer and satirist Barry Crimmins.

And, come back did he.

Crimmins wades in on the convention, or, better yet, conventions, in general, and the political landscape ahead.

Confessions of an ex-con (attendee)

I haven't a single regret that I won't be in Denver this week nor St. Paul next week. I am content to watch the media and pols limbo to new lows of pandering, insincerity and self-celebration from the comfort of home.

I've been to a million campaign events. I've been a credentialed member of the media at numerous national political conventions, as well as a dissident/performer at those same gatherings and several others. I've shared the stage with presidential candidates and bull goose loony conspiracy freaks. It's a toss-up which was more embarrassing.
Jump over and read the entire piece - it's insightful, hysterical and on-the-money (he could have just posted the Caroline Kennedy riffs alone and had a winner).

And you gotta read the Comments ...

In particular, the exchange between Barry and "Scout" (The Garlic did suggest to Barry that he advise "Scout" that "Boo Radley really is friendly")

Also, another comment deserves full view here;

John A. Joslin ( Detroit) -- Tuesday, August 26th 2008 5:50PM
Barry, I think we can forgive Caroline Kennedy... even though we probably shouldn't. Let's take the high road on this one. Caroline Kennedy was like a little kid trying to pin the tail on the donkey for Christ's sakes. She was used by these inane strategy bastards. They blindfolded her & set her stumbling off down the breakdown lane of the Beltway w/ instructions to find a good, honest man who can help us heal this country.

Next thing you know, she comes back with "plastic Joe " in tow, the guy who's been helping the credit card industry steal this country. She basically drags in the equivalent of 100 feet of human anchor chain to wrap around the ankles of the Obama campaign. She couldn't help it , Barry, in my opinion.

She was raised to give a hand to the less fortunate , and a sad sack old bagman w/ his hourglass running out of sand fits the description. The nautical thing was a factor, too. You know what I'm talking about : Hyannis Port , spinnakers , don't go swimming until two hours after eating a bushel of fried clams , tying bowlines with one hand , tilting decks, spar varnish, starfish, and salt water spray in your hair. It all adds up. She was spawned by water people and she knows a genuine NON-boat rocker when she sees one.

The Kennedys were always big on acts of charity. She probably figures it would be good for Joe to spend his declining years in the company of a halfway decent human being like Obama.

Plus, in case Obama LOSES ... Joe B. will be the perfect guy , right up front beaming for the cameras just like nothing happened," We fought the good fight . Tonight, we have heard the voice of the American people from the tiny hamlets and the busy crossroads , from the small towns, the farming communities, and from the great urban centers of this nation. I might have wanted it to go the other way, but let me be the first to congratulate my good friend and maniacal counterpart... blah, blah.

We can't blame Caroline Kennedy.
