Happy Halloween!

Well, it's THAT night, again.

The yearly slog of the calendar when you're supposed to give away tooth-destroying candies to small (and large) costumed children (here, in the Northeast, they're getting a break, it's windy, but balmy, in the low 60's).

Even as a child, I never quite got into this holiday, or event ... Or whatever it is ...

Wikipedia says that ...

Halloween (more traditionally spelled Hallowe'en) is an annual holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and gets its name from being the eve (e'en) of the Western Christian holy day of All Saints (the Eastern Orthodox celebrate All Saints Day in June). It is largely a secular celebration but some have expressed strong feelings about perceived religious overtones ...

The colours black and orange have become associated with the celebrations, perhaps because of the darkness of night and the colour of fire or of pumpkins, and maybe because of the vivid contrast this presents for merchandising. Another association is with the jack-o'-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, wearing costumes and attending costume parties, ghost tours, bonfires, visiting haunted attractions, pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films.

Ahhh ... "Merchandising" ...

Like there's not enough balls-of-string - electronic, or otherwise - to waste your money on.

The Big Day ...

Trick or Treat?

We could make jokes about Stumblin' Bumblin' John McKKKain, and his sidekick, The Wasilla Whiz Kid, going out today, dressed as a couple of mavericks, however, I doubt very many would drop candy in their bags, not finding the pair credible, the costumes really low rent and cheesy, yet, we will lay low on that.

Rather, instead of any tricks, we'll give you a treat.

Some say, the legendary drummer, Philly Joe Jones was a huge fan of Béla Lugosi, and then there is this account as well;

If that weren't enough, he was, in addition, an entertainer with unusual presence and great ability as a mimic and comedian. I commend to your attention his now famous Bela Lugosi/Count Dracula imitation (Blues for Dracula - Philly Joe Jones Riverside, OJCCD-230-2). He did it so accurately and with flair that he might well have intimidated comedian-commentator Lenny Bruce, whose Lugosi impressions inspired the multifaceted drummer to this a part of his act.
