To steal from ''Yankee Doodle Dandy' for a moment ..."So long Scooter, we're through with you ...We'll have nothing to do with you ..."
No, I. Lewis "Scooter:" Libby isn't a jockey who was accused of throwing the English Derby, he was a member of the Bush Grindhouse, Vice President Death Vader's Chief of Staff who assisted outing a covert CIA Agent Valarie Plame, for the purpose of political retribution, lied about it, covered it up and was convicted of Perjury and Obstruction of Justice
(However, one of his accomplices, The Commander Guy, commuted his sentence, before Little Scooter had to really worry about if he would get see the aspens turning again)
Karma came a'vistin' to Scooter Libby today;
Former Cheney Aide Libby Disbarred"When a member of the Bar is convicted of an offense involving moral turpitude, disbarment is mandatory," the three judges wrote in their order. "This court has held that obstruction of justice and perjury are crimes of moral turpitude. Since respondent was convicted of each of these offenses, as the Board concluded, disbarment is mandatory under D.C. Code.
Jane Hamsher, from Firedoglake, has a pretty good idea;Kind of seems like some old time military "cashiering ceremony" is in order with a formal parade, where they call the miscreant out and break his sword and force him to leave.
I guess we'll have to settle for future disbarring in New York. Sets a nice precedent.
Hmmm... Can we expect a blizzard of new letters from the pen of Mary Matalin? Will she be seeking "Disbarment Funds" for the Scooter? Maybe Fred Thompson can chip in, write a few notes when Matalin cramps up, or make a few calls.
I wanted to link to the website - ScooterLibby.Com- but, apparently, they've taken it down and, rather ironically, the first Ad listing on the former link is for "Mini Power Scooters" (you can go here to see a partial listing of what was on it)
Oh, how the petty and twisted fall ...
Then again, it's a little more than eight-months to wait for the Christmas Pardon List

Retro Garlic ... We Told You So!
Well, things have been moving along this week like an Alberta Clipper.
'Tis the season, and in our world that means a bevy of Bush Grindhouse scandals (and if you are having a hard time keeping track of them all, Keith Olbermann has started a new feature - Bushed - on his 'Countdown' program ).
And today, we have the opportunity to go Retro Garlic, and a short Retro it is.
With a prolonged drumroll earlier this week, breath was held to see if I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby would be on the list for a Presidential Pardon, being he - hint, hint - announced he was dropping the appeal of his trial, and would ride as a convicted felon, until ...
This had many-a-pundit, as well as a good chunk of the blogosphere, salivating that the Bush Grindhouse's brick wall would come down, and The Commander Guy would have to comment on the treasonous scandal his staff engaged in - the exposure of covert CIA agent Valerie Plame.
Alas, it didn't come.
Ahh, but The Garlic held on to its' skin, kept our powder dry, not seeing this as a condition the Bush Grindhouse would break its' pattern of lying, stonewalling, and obfuscation.
From The Garlic, on Monday;"And, for all of you waiting to hear The Scooter, or The Bush Grindhouse, spill their guts, now that the appeal process is over, think again.
There's still the matter of Valerie Plame's possible lawsuit and, no doubt, they will continue to clam-up, citing that "litigation", if the Wilson's can revive their case, after it was thrown out last summer."
From Think Progress today; What did Perino say in the gaggle? The Washington Post reports Perino found another convenient excuse to punt on answering about the White House’s involvement in the Plame leak. Perino said that she hadn’t spoken to Bush yet, but she cited the Wilson’s ongoing civil case as a reason not to comment:
I did talk to our counsel’s office because I forgot that there is a civil case that is pending on this issue. I did forget. The Wilsons have filed a case in civil court, it was dismissed, and they are on appeal."
And, even if the Wilson's announce they are dropping their appeal, the Bush Grindhouse will mow through legal cases, as many as they have to (and don't rule out the Hauptmann Case) to find something they can hid behind and stay silent.
That means, it's time to Cue up Que Sera Sera...

Well, That Wasn't Much Of A Wait ...
If Scooter Libby leaves that Christmas stocking hung, it may end up with not much more that a piece of coal in it.
'Cuz that Christmas Presidential Pardon sure ain't flying down the chimney this year!
The Department of Injustice released their 2007 List of Pardons today, and I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby was not among the 29 names getting their holiday orgasm, their golden "I Got Away With It" certificate.
No doubt, the holiday eggnog in the Libby abode must be heavily rummed-up, and, perhaps, tasting a bit clumpy this evening.
What's an ass-kissing, law-breaking, CIA-covert-agent-exposing convicted felon have to do around this place to get a little love from his Compassionate Commander Guy ex-boss?
Like Tessio, in 'The Godfather", The Scooter must have been thinking "Hell, he can't do that ... It screws up all my plans ..."
Now, Little Scooter has to sit around, probably with Mary Matalin getting all in his face, constantly badgering him with drafts of new fundraising letters, listening to publishers tell him his previous books suck, but "if you write about what you did", which has to tempt the Mrs. Scooter to be barking in his ears, "Screw them, take the money!", keeping his steely pluck, relying on all his experience as a dedicated civil servant, and wait until next year to get his freedom.
Maybe Fred Thompson will drop out of the race (rather than waiting, about another two months, to be booted out of it, embarrassingly, with numbers that would only look good on a golf card) so he can be by his buddy's side, putting the arm on all those neocons to kick up a few bucks for the Little Scooter.
Wouldn't be surprised either, to hear news that Cheney was brought into the hospital -again - with a broken defibrillator.
Cheney has to be sitting around, stewing, the picture of a Looney Tune cartoon, his oversized head throwing off buckets of sweat, thinking about is this the time to say 'fuck it", and just issue the pardon himself.
Fox News will have to file away all that B-Roll, tape over the sappy soundtrack, book new talking heads for all the appearances they had the Little Scooter pegged for - across their Freakshow line-up (but, they will put him on with Chris Wallace anyway, lest they have to listen to him piss-and-moan about not getting anyone to come on his show).
Boy, sure wouldn't mind being the package of Sweet'N Low on the table, the next time Scooter and Judy get together for coffee

All I Want For Christmas Is My Presidential Pardon
It would appear the I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby is placing his chips on "Presidential Pardon", with the news today that, despite continuing to claim his innocence, he is ending the appeal of his trial, leaving him, for the time being, a convicted felon.
In all likelihood, that was the deal from the beginning, but, considering the mental capacity of The Decider Guy, does he even remember The Scooter Guy?
Especially after, earlier this summer, he offered "I'm aware of the fact that perhaps somebody in the administration did disclose the name of that person ..."
Did Cheney have those CIA guys erase his memory as well?
Does Scooter get his Christmas stocking stuffed with a Presidential Pardon?
Is this Scooter's powerplay, to force the hand that will sign the pardon?
With the blizzard of new scandals that whacked the Bush Grindhouse in the past week - take your pick; A) the still-growing CIA Videotape erasure, B) The Iran NIE Report C) Sheldon Whitehouse's yeoman work in exposing the self-appointed rulings, declaring The Decider Guy, well, the real Decider Guy, as whatever he says is the law, is the law - is The Scooter getting nervous that something could happen - yes, the "I" word - comes down, before January 20th, 2009, killing off his going-out-the-door pardon?
Is this pressure from Darth Vader, that, perhaps, the device inside his chest is in it's last throes and he wants to see his little Robin (Ehhh, scratch that - the thought of Cheney and Libby in tights ... Nasty), free-and-clear while he's still ticking?
This oughta' put a few talking heads to work over the next few weeks.
Everybody can synchronize their watches, for the Libby Pardon Clock is, officially, set today.
Mary Matalin must be busy, drafting up those new fundraising letters, and urging all those Friends of Scooter, to start badgering The Decider Guy to make the only decision they know in their hearts should be made - Pardon our Little Scooter!
And, for all of you waiting to hear The Scooter, or The Bush Grindhouse, spill their guts, now that the appeal process is over, think again.
There's still the matter of Valerie Plame's possible lawsuit and, no doubt, they will continue to clam-up, citing that "litigation", if the Wilson's can revive their case, after it was thrown out last summer.
Still, it would make for entertaining viewing, to see a subpoenaed Scooter, sitting in front a Congressional Committee, displaying his deep dedication to public service, by taking the 5th, over-and-over. A veritable civics lesson for the cable news and C-Span viewers.
Scooter must be banking on that The Commander Guy has a Santa suit hanging in the closet, perhaps, right next to his Mission Accomplished" flightsuit.
Valerie Plame, covert CIA agent exposed, to punish her Iraq War-critical, Op-Ed-writing husband, and no one goes to jail for treason?
Sounds like another Bush Grindhouse "Mission Accomplished" to me.
It's Another Scooterpalooza!

Left Off Medal of Freedom Recipient List, Libby Said To Be "Crushed"
Cheney Said To Be Furious, Threatens To Expose Shadow Presidency If Pardon Doesn't Come Through
Sources tell The Garlic this morning that there are new, hostile divisions deep inside the White House.
I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, commuted from his felony conviction in the Plame Leak Case, was said to be "despondent and crushed" after seeing the list of Medal of Freedom recipients released by the President yesterday.
Libby, according to a West Wing staffer, called Vice President Dick Cheney, and in tears, expressed his disappointment to his former boss, of not being awarded one.
Cheney was said to be furious, reacting angrily and threatened to expose the Shadow Presidency he has been conducting.
Cheney reportedly called the President, "barking at him" and demanded to know, if Libby was not receiving a Medal of Freedom award, when was his pardon coming through.
"We were sure Scooter was going to get one." whined Mary Matalin (Editor's Note: Whining is Ms. Matalins' natural way of speaking), a Libby friend and former colleague, as well as one of the chief fundraisers for Libby's defense.
"I mean, he gave one to Tenet, for God sakes!"
When asked for comment, White House Press Secretary Dana Perino indicated she didn't know anything about the Medal of Freedom awards, or how the list was developed.
"However," she added, "I believe that there are certain health benefits to not receiving one."
Libby is, reportedly, in talks with the Fox News Network as to developing a new show, tentatively titled "Are You Smarter Than a Convicted, But Commuted, Former White House Official?"

Let's Hear It For The Quid Pro Quo ... New Garlic Song - Hush Little Libby
Well, we had to do something to feat the remarkable occasion, before the end-of-the-week.
It's not every day you witness the President of the United States work his end of-the-deal of a Quid Pro Quo, which, as we all know, is what down this past Monday afternoon.
The Bush Grindhouse was in peril.
One of there loyal own was about to be carted off to jail, despite the Bush Grindhouse's efforts to pack the courts with "their kind of judges".
I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby did his part, back in 2002-2003, exposing covert CIA Agent Valerie Plame, kept doing his part, lying and obstructing justice during the subsequent investigation, in the Grand Jury, and completed his part during his trial earlier this year, by not calling his boss, the Vice President to testify, and by not testifying himself.
And he waited, if not nervously, patiently, through the sentencing and through the appeal to remain free on bond.
Then, without warning, The Commander Guy morphed into The Commutation Guy and Cheney could rest easy in his Secret Bunker, perhaps his first night, in many, without sleeping with the defibrillator nearby.
The Quid Pro Quo was complete.
Scooter Skates.
So, if he is going to skate, he needs a soundtrack, something he can groove and sway to as he rolls off into the sunset,
Everybody, sing along, it's an old school lullabye!Hush Little Libby

Hush little Libby don't say a word
Cheney's gonna get your sentence deferred
If that Decider does his thing
It'll piss off the whole left wing
If the left wing bites our ass,
Cheney's gonna buy you a looking glass
If that looking glass gets broke,
Our asses will be covered by the Neocon folk
If those Neocon folk don't push,
We can just blame good ol' George W. Bush
And If George Bush doesn't fold his tent,
We can easily win this arguement
If the spin we spin won't bark,
Rove'll get Fredo to fire another shark
And if this deal just won't go down,
You'll still be the sweetest little liar in town

Of Blackboards, Chalk and Legacies ... The Constitutional Crises Continues
Okay, so it's been a holiday week, I should stifle my impatience that Congress hasn't filed the Impeachment papers, or the call for a Citizen's Arrest has gone down yet.
Everyone must be waiting for a clean news cycle to spring into action.
The Blackboard and Chalk Part
So much for the faulty memory.
It appears I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby remembered very clearly, that he better hustle his ass off and pay the $250,000 fine related to his felon conviction - and within 72-hours of being bailed out by The Commutation Guy - before anyone gets the wiser and messes up his "Hush and Keep Quiet" deal.
And, as Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, Surprise!", we have a legal kerfuffle brewing, thanks to The Commander Guy (just at the moment he was morphing into The Commutation Guy).
The presiding Judge, His Honor Reggie Walton, has pointed out to the Bush Grindhouse, of said felon, Scooter Libby, that the statute doesn't accommodate probation if a convicted felon doesn't serve any part of his sentence.
The Scooter Man didn't serve any part of his 30-Month sentence.
The Bush Grindhouse still insists that the commutation was legit and Libby is not receiving any special treatment.
So, speculation is this will be settled in the following manner;
Scooter Libby will stay after work, and write on a blackboard:
"I WILL NOT LIE OR OBSTRUCT JUSTICE" 500 times.
There. Done. Punished.
The Legacy Part
Boy, the legacy building is really tough these days, especially when you break the law, cloak your work in secrecy and, otherwise, don't do anything positive.
And he can't, technically, claim getting elected President on the Legacy Ledger - that was handed to him by the Supreme Court.
So, you compensate, right?
You build a new Iraq Embassy that could probably house a few dozen Spruce Gooses' (and, apparently, following Mr. Hughes' lead in using, how should we say, different materials).
You keep sending in troops - and even more mercanaries - to a war that was long lost.
And there's the arm-twisting whatever remains of his deluded supporters, to kick in big-time, for a presidential library.
The only mystery or suspense about what would be housed in a Bush Presidential Library, with his (or Cheney's) penchant for burying everything, is if there'll be a copy of 'My Pet Goat' in it.
But thanks to Glenn Greenwald yesterday, The Uniter/The Decider/The Commander Guy can peek at what awaits him, as he shallowly and embarassingly cuts the ribbon (assuming they don't put that out on a No-Bid Contract) on his post-Presidency whatever-you-call-it building.
The tragic collapse of America's standing in the world
And there's this caveat; And in what is perhaps the most tragic aspect of the Bush legacy, large numbers of people around the world, over the last six years, have abandoned their belief in U.S. democratic values -- the exact opposite result, literally, of our ostensible objective in everything we have done in the last six years
Maybe we need to get Bush to write on a blackboard 500 times;
"I WILL NOT LIE, COOK INTEL, START PHONY WARS, ILLEGALLY WIRETAP, EXPOSE COVERT CIA AGENTS, FILL THE JUSTICE DEPARTMENT WITH CRONIES, ISSUE ANYMORE SIGNING STATEMENTS, OR IGNORE THE CITY OF NEW ORLEANS"

You Got Away With It Once, Cheney, But We're Watching You ... The Results - The Garlic's Weekly Poll
Perhaps, it was the festive momentum of our recent Cheneypalooza, but, more likely, our Garlic Poll Voters know - despite The Commutation Guy's heinous actions yesterday - that Vice President Dick Cheney committed treason in the outing of covert CIA Agent Valerie Plame.
So, it may be that the CIA was less in the market for redemption, but rather letting Darth Vader know that they can pull off his mask at the drop of a illegal wiretap.
And Cheney has to think, with all the spooks and black bag ops - the ones off-the-books, operating without any official backing or cover - that the hardcore alliance doesn't take kindly to a bloated, over-reaching, wannabe-warrior exposing one of their own.
The Bush Grindhouse can bury and burn all the records and emails it wants.
These guys know payback and the Vice President will have to live out the rest of his days, never knowing when it will come, or from what direction.
In a warped way, we're sure the Vice President will appreciate and respect the secrecy of such action
The Results - The Garlic's Weekly Poll June 25 - July 2 2007
The CIA releasing its' "family jewels" probably has to do with ...
1. Not-so-subtle warning to Dick Cheney, to not expose any more covert agents Tally 36%
2. Needing to clean out files and storerooms, to make way for new, clandestine, black bag ops Tally 33%
3. CIA Director Col. Michael Hayden bucking for his own Medal of Freedom award Tally 22%
4. Hoping someone makes a movie about them, so they can collect royalties Tally 9%

"What Did He Know and When Did He Know It" ... The Monday Massacre
"I respect the jury's verdict. But I have concluded that the prison sentence given to Mr. Libby is excessive. Therefore, I am commuting the portion of Mr. Libby's sentence that required him to spend thirty months in prison."
Well, it only took a few hours for The Commander Guy to become The Commutation Guy.
What a crock of shit!
A few minutes ago, Jeffrey Toobin on CNN called Libby getting "a very special brand of justice".
Our nation's leader just usurped a special prosecutor (Republican, no less), a sitting Judge (also Republican), a jury of HIS peers - 12, unbiased American citizens - and, just today, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit (also Republicans).
Not to mention the obvious conflict-of-interest.
Since it was Our Decider Guy, who gave, via the amended Executive Order 12958, Cheney the authority to declassify information at-will, and Cheney then used declassified information, instructing his minion Libby to go out and destroy Valerie Plame and Joe Wilson, we are now entering, eerily and sadly, 1973-Land, and, perhaps have to start asking THE QUESTION;
What Did He Know and When Did He Know It?
This is, and it is quite the understatement, a developing story.

Now, the big question - Does Libby follow the lead of his puppet master and declare that he is neither part of the Executive or Legislative Branch, therefore the court does not have jurisdiction over him and he can ignore the demands it makes?
Does The Commander Guy, yet again, transform himself, this time into The Pardon Guy?

Well, Well, Well ...
No more aspens turning. No more lunches with Judy.
The Scooter doesn't skate. Hard time for one, royal hard-on.
Now, it remains to be seen if the Crony General and current Chief of Staff Josh Bolten rush over in the late of night to Judge Reggie Walton, imploring him to let The Scooter out on bail, so he can go through the charade of an appeal process, patiently tapping his toes, waiting for The Commander Guy, assuming his wrist isn't sore from signing Signing Statements, and pen his name to a pardon (that ground-shaking, like an earthquake, felt in the DC area around noontime today, was Cheney, with a head of steam, charging down to the Oval Office, red in face, foaming at the mouth, veins pulsing on his dome, demanding that pardon)
So, as we have in the past, The Garlic serenades The Scooter today, turning to the great Ray Charles' "Makin' Whoopie".
As always, sing along and let The Scooter hear you!Let's Jail Libby
