Man, these guys are stone cold.
They're throwing one of their own under the bus - before any shit flies.
I mean, they took him by the arms and legs, swung him back-and-forth a few times to get some momentum and heaved him in front of that big, ol' Greyhound barreling down the road.
Fearing that the reconfirmation of Joint Chief of Staff Peter Pace would hold him - and the Bush Grindhouse - accountable for the disaster they have wrought in Iraq (hmmmm, does "disaster" even cover it anymore? Is there a word that can accurately describe how Bush & Co. have fucked up Iraq, and by way of that, the rest of the world?), they chucked him.
On well, easy lie, easy go, I guess ...
So, since we didn't write anything else today, might as well serenade the Disjointed Chief with some Fats Waller music, as he boogies out the door.

The Scooter Doesn't Skate ... New Garlic Song - Let's Jail Libby!
Well, Well, Well ...
No more aspens turning. No more lunches with Judy.
The Scooter doesn't skate. Hard time for one, royal hard-on.
Now, it remains to be seen if the Crony General and current Chief of Staff Josh Bolten rush over in the late of night to Judge Reggie Walton, imploring him to let The Scooter out on bail, so he can go through the charade of an appeal process, patiently tapping his toes, waiting for The Commander Guy, assuming his wrist isn't sore from signing Signing Statements, and pen his name to a pardon (that ground-shaking, like an earthquake, felt in the DC area around noontime today, was Cheney, with a head of steam, charging down to the Oval Office, red in face, foaming at the mouth, veins pulsing on his dome, demanding that pardon)
So, as we have in the past, The Garlic serenades The Scooter today, turning to the great Ray Charles' "Makin' Whoopie".
As always, sing along and let The Scooter hear you!Let's Jail Libby
Another lie, Another June
Another Bush-Cheney Goon
Another season, another reason
Let's Jail Libby
New terror news, where's Condi Rice

Let's Jail Libby
Three years or maybe less

He feels neglected and he's suspected
Let's Jail Libby
He sits alone most every night
He doesn't phone Scooter, he doesn't write
Cheney says he's busy but Scooter say's "is he?"
Let's Jail Libby
He doesn't raise much money
Matalin's busier than a whore
some donors who thinks she's funny
says a pardon's gonna cost much more
Scooter says now judge suppose I fail
And Cheney says the check is in the mail

you better keep it
our little secret

And The Warehouse of Shoes That Are Still To Drop ... The Results - The Garlic Weekly Poll
Well, just taking care of some late business here.
Funny thing, being away for a week, or so, it's pretty remarkable that the Crony General is still the Crony General.
The pat-on-the-back could still be coming, not just from what has come out already , and about, our Injustice Department, but the warehouse of shoes that are still to drop.
Then again, it really isn't a big surprise. The Bush Grindhouse has excelled, beyond all others, at incompetence - from the Pentagon, to FEMA, now Injustice and right up to the doorsteps of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
Since we've already had one "Godfather-like" scene, Fredo probably should be wary if some Al Neri-type from the Grindhouse, or Darth Vader's office inviting him to go fishing.

Barry Crimmins: Of Exits and Eulipions
Ah ha ... You wouldn't forget him either, if you met him where I met him ...
Talking about desolation ... Lord ... Desolation is a railroad station, around about 2AM on a weeknight ... When you walk into desolation like that, and suddenly, out of nowhere, comes a warm song, you ain't about to forget it ...
This is the first time, though, that I heard him at an airport ... I know he moves along the piers ... Ah-Haaa ... He calls himself a journey agent ... A Eulipion ... Says his friends the poets ... The artists ... The musicians are Eulipions too ...
Hey! ... Listen! ... Listen to his tune ... Calls it his Duty Free Gift For The Traveler ...
Rahsaan Roland Kirk and Betty Neal
When you get down to it, Barry Crimmins is one of the fading number of Eulipions.
Barry would often joke and tease me about my love of Jazz, but as time went on, the years passed, the routine sharper and sharper, we would talk about the parallels of what he was doing on-stage, juking and riffing, going off on long solos, or finishing off a bit with a flourishing drum roll coolness.
A few degrees, a few shades and hues of a jazz performance.
Barry announced last month that he will cease performing on stage, ground down by the baseline of chaos-as-life, perpetually-ringing telephone and the relentless harshness of life on the road.
Barry has done the railroads, the piers, airports, buses and just about all other modes of travel over his 30+ years of performing stand-up comedy and satire. He's played the "big rooms", he's done the holes-in-the-wall. A portion of the time, he did it for himself, his career.
A larger amount of time, he did for others, benefits for social and progressive causes, the Peace Abbey, anti-war, Camp Casey, or maybe just a friend, who needed some help, or had undo medical expenses. On one occasion, lending a hand to a struggling jazz festival.
For his career gigs, Barry certainly got his accolades. For the other, Barry deferred credit, no bragging, no big-ego-star turn, taking no compensation for his appearances, or giving the pay to whoever the gig was benefiting.
And Barry is a complainer.
He will give you the shirt off his back, if that was what the situation dictates, and then complain that he didn't give it to you fast enough ... Or that he didn't have enough shirts with him to give to you.
It's been a treasure and a treat to have seen many of his performances. From the old Ding Ho, to the Improv, the Punchline and the whole mishmash of places he gigged. The tours he did with Jackson Browne, or Dar Williams. His live recording sessions. Drinking at a service bar at a Venice Beach café.
And while all that was fun and great, the bigger, longer-lasting reward has been his friendship. The warmth, the trueness, the ease.
He's only trading the stage for the internet, newspaper and magazine essays. More books too.
And for that, we all get more of Barry Crimmins.
Be sure to listen to his tune ... His Duty Free Gift For The Traveler.
You won't forget it, either.

Editor's Note - Mea Culpa For The Absence and Low Posting
Good Evening Garlic Fans
I hope all is well with you.
I wanted to touch base and offer some reason on why The Garlic has been quiet the past week, or so.
Yours truly has had a real life, serious family situation to deal with, that has required all energy and attention.
For some time now, going on 12-years, I have been caretaker to an elderly relative, an aunt, now 94.
It's only been the last six-or-seven-years that she has started the descent into age dementia and memory loss (as well as significant hearing loss). A very vibrant woman, someone who averaged walking 5-10-miles per-day into her late 80's, an advocate, long before it was popular, or had titles and categories of market share, of eating healthy, vitamins, holistic approaches to medicine, was slowing down.
Roughly eight-years ago, she fell, breaking her shoulder (but didn't tell me about it for nearly six-hours).
Two-years ago, she suffered a 'TIA Episode" or small stroke.
And last Friday night/Saturday morning, she encountered, what turned out to be, Congestive Heart Failure, a small heart attack. Which soon became exponentially more complicated, within 30-minutes of being admitted to the hospital, she took a fall, breaking her left wrist.
So, I have been dealing with this, as she was discharged from the hospital this past Tuesday, and now it's been about getting her comfortable and figuring out, with the heavy plaster cast, and on Lasik to diminish any remnants of fluid build-up, which makes her tired, what her baseline is going to be.
I wanted to present this, to assuage concerns anyone had, fearful that the gas tank was empty and I was giving it up, and that I hope, with this post tonight, and, perhaps a few over the weekend, to get back in the groove.
It may be light - Top Ten Cloves, or riffs pointing to other hot news or great writing - and it could still be erratic, but I am eager to get back to work.
So, please bear with The Garlic and, if it's a light or empty day, scroll down the right column to the vast array of links or highlighted posts you may have missed.
Peace

Become a Cheney's Cheney ... Help The VP Build His Team, For The Most Gleaming of Brass Rings - Iran
We have a situation developing, with the Cheney side of our government all running around with puffed up tents in the crotch of their trousers, over the prospects of "hot conflict" with Iran, that there is talk of "insubordination against President Bush" and his wimpy diplomacy-first side of the government.
We'll set aside, for the moment, using the words "President Bush" and "diplomacy" in the same sentence.
Jackson Williams, on the Huffington Post, asked yesterday "Just who is Cheney's team these days, what with Scooter Libby headed to jail and Rummy off playing bridge? Well, the ranks have surely thinned as this blunder has gone on, but there is probably some recruitment of new blood taking place, too."
Where is the new blood coming from?
The Garlic, not wanting to be shown up as not supporting our troops, wants to lend a hand for this effort and has composed a Want Ad for the Office of Vice President, being that Monica Goodling resigned, and can't be sitting there any longer, wearing her BL armband (Bush Loyalist) when screening potential candidates.
Get yourself in the game, it's likely this position will be filled very quickly.
Position: Loyal, Hard-Nosed Neoconservative Yes-Man
Have you ever wanted to overthrow a foreign regime, start a war or tell a United States Senator to "go fuck yourself"?
Do you often find yourself sticking, obstinately, to a minority viewpoint, refusing to give in because you know, deep in your gut, you are correct - even when some panty-waist liberal is waving irrefutable evidence in your face?
If so, the Office of the Vice President has an exciting and rewarding career opportunity for you.
In the dynamic world of the nation's first "Shadow President", you will be in the vortex of domestic and world events, meeting with the nation's energy chiefs, or taking an overseas trips to berate foreign governments.
You may, at times find yourself holed-up in a genuine Secret Bunker, and you'll have the thrill of living through the Armageddon drills and running the country "the day after" with surreptitious weekend retreats.
And, you just may be on-board for the most gleaming of brass rings - Iran.
Qualifications
- Ability to write, bully, steal, fabricate, and/or otherwise generate intelligence supporting the Vice President's policies and vision
- Talent, in face of withering criticism, to be able to stay on message and repeat false claims
- No Conscious and no regrets in outing and exposing covert CIA agents
- Lying and the knack for placing blame on others are required skills for the position
** All candidates, to be considered for the position, will be required to sign a waiver, indicating the acceptance of going to prison in order to protect the Vice President should such an occurance manifest in carrying out your duties in the Office of the Vice President.

Cue The Zither Music ... Minced Garlic: New Keith Olbermann Special Comment
The Entire Government Has Failed Us On Iraq
Another Keith Olbermann Special Comment this evening, about shame, and the bi-partisan governing exhibited by our President and Congress over the past day in regard to the Iraq War Spending Bill.
He called it a "betrayal" and, for the Democrats, "their Neville Chamberlain moment"
"That’s what this is for the Democrats, isn’t it?
Their “Neville Chamberlain moment” before the Second World War.
All that’s missing is the landing at the airport, with the blinkered leader waving a piece of paper which he naively thought would guarantee “peace in our time,” but which his opponent would ignore with deceit.
The Democrats have merely streamlined the process.
Their piece of paper already says Mr. Bush can ignore it, with impunity.
The Garlic thanks to a confluence of events, sees it more like the classic "The Third Man", with George Bush taking on the Harry Lime role (so deliciously portrayed in the film by the great Orson Wells), with a haunting score of zither music.Last night, taking on the Holly Martins role, the U.S. Congress, with not enough cynicism, and wanting to believe so much in their Bush-as-Harry Lime, capitulated and gave him a toothless Iraq War Spending Bill.
This morning, the stalwart of justice, Monica Goodling, certainly taking on the part of Anna Schmidt, all misty-eyed in love with Harry, took her turn before the House Judiciary Committee, to, alternately defend Lime and his cohorts, and, at the same time throw a few people under the bus - and hope, just as Anna in the movie did, she doesn't get arrested, but will do so, willingly, for her Harry.
Today, The Commander Guy goes to the Coast Guard Academy, to raise the curtain - again - on fear, playing the Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda card - with, at least, two-year old intelligence, only recently declassified for The Decider's usage - telling how Iraq will be used as a launching pad for attacks on the United States - the same Iraq that Osama bin Laden and Al Qaeda wasn't in when the Bush Grindhouse unleashed their "Shock and Awe" to invade and occupy the country.
Lime, in post WWII Vienna, was trafficking in bad penicillin, along with other unsavory activities, including murder.
Bush-as-Lime, in the post Sept.11th world, is trafficking in bad intelligence, illegal wiretaps, the politicization of the Justice Department, as well as the aforementioned invasion and occupation of a sovereign nation.
Lime, in a famous scene, runs through the Vienna sewer system.
Bush-as-Lime, by his actions, has dragged the United States of America down in the sewer, with his attack on the U.S. Constitution, the suspension of habeas corpus, governing via Signing Statements, and his lying.
Lime, in the movie, doesn't get away with it.
Our Bush-as-Lime, thanks to the Congress, playing the passive Martins, half wanting to stop him, and half, wanting to see him succeed, may just get away with it, keeping us, and our soldiers, in harms way, right up to January 20th, 2009.
But all the Commander Guy could come up with today was to pull out the tired, well-worn, fear mongering speech, nothing even remotely close to the classic riff Harry Lime gives Holly (with a bit of fear mongering of his own - "... I carry a gun...I don't think they'd look for a bullet wound after you'd hit that ground...") at the top of the Riesenrad, the large Ferris wheel in the Prater amusement park;
HARRY
Don't be so gloomy...After all,
it's not that awful. Remember what
the fellow said...
- in Italy, for thirty years under
the Borgias, they had warfare,
terror, murder, bloodshed, but they
produced Michaelangelo - Leonardo
Da Vinci, and the Renaissance...In
Switzerland, they had brotherly
love. They had five hundred years
of democracy and peace, and what did
that produce?...The cuckoo clock.
So long, Holly.
Olbermann, for his part in this play, came out swinging.
Few men or women elected in our history—whether executive or legislative, state or national—have been sent into office with a mandate more obvious, nor instructions more clear:With bullet points, Olbermann blasts the Dems, with punches that likely were felt down in the Beltway, before going on to;
Get us out of Iraq.
A President, Mr. Bush, uses the carte blanche he has already, not to manipulate an overlap of arriving and departing Brigades into a ‘second surge,’ but to say in unequivocal terms that if it takes every last dime of the monies already allocated, if it takes reneging on government contracts with Halliburton, he will make sure the troops are safe—even if the only safety to be found, is in getting them the hell out of there.Olbermann finishes (and I won't ruin it here for you) with a flourish, a heated "we’re not going to take it", while laying down a challenge, to, well, someone, stop the lies, and stop the war.
Well, any true President would have done that, Sir.
You instead, used our troops as political pawns, then blamed the Democrats when you did so.

You Shouldn't Worry There, Dick ... Everyone Knows You're A Hard-Ass ... The Results - The Garlic Weekly Poll
So what the little puke in the Oval Office calls himself "The Uniter" or "The Decider", and even "The Commander Guy".
You don't have to be so sensitive about it, as our Garlic Poll Voters seemed to think.
Everyone knows you're a hard-ass.
You are, in the spirit of the immigration debate going on, muy macho. You kick butt and expose names. You have a Secret Bunker. You bully people to give you the intelligence you want, so you can launch wars. You nailed CNN's Wolf Blitzer and then sent your wife in to slap him around some more. You go away weekends, with you old pal Rummy, for Doomsday weekends.
You earned the moniker of "Darth Vader", for Christ Sakes. You even have a protégé named after you - Cheney's Cheney!
That's about as hard an ass a hard-ass can get.
So chill out on the overseas stuff. Pitch in, and save some energy (unless, from your muy macho super-secret energy meetings, you're getting a deal or something). Do more walking, it'll help that old ticker of yours.
And, one other thing. The guys overseas don't really want to tell you.
They're gonna "yes" you to death because they're just marking time, They know you're on your way out, via, either impeachment, or indictment, or, somehow, you ride it out until January 2009.

Top Ten Cloves: Things About If Abraham Lincoln Were Shot Today
News Item: Science and Medicine: Could Lincoln Have Survived?
10. Lincoln's HMO plan would have forced him to be taken to a hospital hours-away, in Virginia or Maryland
9. Booth would say he shot Lincoln to impress actress Lindsey Lohan
8. Ford Theatre owners would have prevented anyone for caring for Lincoln on-site, out of fear of lawsuits
7. When Homicide: Life On the Streets was running, Detective Steve Crosetti's part would have had to be written that he had an obsession with the Kennedy Assassination
6. You can be sure, if they took Lincoln to Walter Reed Medical Center, it would have been one of the good, clean wings
5. Jerry Falwell would have blamed the shooting on "abortionists, pagans, feminists, gays and lesbians and the ACLU".
4. Shooting wouldn't have happened; The illegal NSA Wiretapping program would have picked up the plot and John Wilkes Booth, John Surratt, Lewis Powell, David Herold, Mary Surratt and Dr. Samuel Mudd all would have been whisked away to Gitmo as "enemy combatants"
3. Remarkably, it would be nearly three days before the public hears about the Lincoln shooting, and it will come from Texas ranch owner, Katharine Armstrong
2. NBC would, two-days later, receive and broadcast a manifesto from John Wilkes Booth, igniting a controversy

We're Waiting, John Fund ... For You To Take Your Head Out Of Your Ass ... Lieberman Abandoned The Democrats To Run As An Indie, He Wasn't Forced To
Perhaps we can launch a new segment today for The Garlic, titled "Raging Cloves".
Just another slam against the blogosphere, as well as a gratuitous - and false - kudos to Senator Joe Lieberman (R&I - CT)
Last evening, on '''Real Talk with Bill Maher', during the panel discussion segment, WSJ Columnist John Fund put his foot in his mouth, or, better yet, was talking with his head up his ass.
With the topic of the conversation being the Republican Candidates Debate of last week, and Maher extolling on the truth that Ron Paul was speaking.
Fund than jumped in, saying it was a shame that the Republicans were trying to keep Paul out of future debates, to shut him out.
Fund then compared that, to "the netroots shutting out Joe Lieberman and that's why he had to run as an Independent ..."
What?
"...He had to run as as Independent?"
Does Fund have some secret information to verify his statement, perhaps something swept up in the Bush Grindhouse's illegal wiretaps?
Does Fund have an "Alice In Wonderland Looking Glass' instead of regular television and internet.
Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong, Wrong!
Senator Lieberman (R&I - CT) ran as in Independent due to he lost a primary election to a political novice, largely due to Ned Lamont embracing ending the Iraq Invasion and Occupation, while Lieberman chose to continue holding on tight to it, as well as hugging The Commander Guy Bush for a kiss.
The sitting and incumbent Senator ran in an election against a political neophyte and lost.
Lieberman abandoned the Democratic Party and ran as Independent at his own choosing.
Joe Lieberman wasn't shut out of anything. He ran in an election and lost. He wasn't denied anything.
(Editors Note: I don't have the benefit of either a transcript, or TIVO, however, the Fund quote is virtually verbatim, as best as I could remember it in the time it took to pick up paper and pen)

Okay Wolfie, Hit It! ... New Garlic Song For The Wolf Man
Well, chalk another notch in the Bush Legacy.
One of the primo Iraq Invasion and Occupation salesmen is hitting the bricks, deciding in his follow-up career, much like the oil would pay for the devastation of Iraq in his previous', that he would pay for himself, and his girlfriend, Shaha Riza, the World Bank picking up the tab on this one.
Yeah, The Commander Guy will turn himself into "The Banking Guy" and replace Wolfie, as many have speculated, with the lackey across the Atlantic, outgoing British PM Tony Blair (and, blowing on our finger tips, The Garlic had them beat on this a week ago).
But you gotta love the balls on this guy.
First, he has to be one of only a few that gets the company, pretty much out in the open, to pay for his mistress.
Then, he stammers and stutters, not giving in until he gets his solid gold parachute, to the tune of upwards of $400,000.
America ... Ya gotta love it ...
So, in honor of the incredible hijacking - of ethics and money - we salute, as we have so many others in the Bush Grindhouse, with a Garlic Song.
We turn tonight to the All American Songbook, and Jazz classic, Green Dolphin Street (written in 1947, by Bronislau Kaper & Ned Washington)
Sing or hum along!
The World Bank
Shaha one lovely day
Wolfie came planning to stay
The World Bank supplied the setting
The setting for a pay raise beyond forgetting
And though my ethics fell apart
$400K can sure fix my heart
When I recall the moohla I found on
I could kiss the board on
The World Bank

Developing Story! White House Giving World Bank, Wolfowitz Green Light To Blame McNulty
New Strategy Of Leveraging Scandals; Cheney Says Embattled Hero "Definitely In Final Throes" At World Bank
In a stunning reversal, where, up to now, the White House has offered consistent, but hands-off, support, sources have told The Garlic that, after a late night meeting last evening, the World Bank, and its' embattled President Paul Wolfowitz have "top level approval" to spin the blame of their scandal on former Deputy Attorney General Paul McNulty.
This could signal, say White House watchers, a new strategy by the Bush Grindhouse, heard in whispers on the cocktail circuit recently, to begin leveraging the multitude of scandals they find themselves under, ostensibly, to keep Congressional investigators, and the media, off-balance.
"The boys in the West Wing are working overtime," said Dix Whitcomb, editor of the newsletter 'Our Laws Are Different', "to keep any hint of scandal away from The Commander Guy."
It's not clear, just yet, if "top level approval" means that President Bush has authorized Wolfowitz, and the World Bank, to move forward with blaming McNulty.
It also remains a question if this is a new "blame" strategy, or if the Bush Grindhouse is applying its' "Hello, We Must Be Going" policy to a new problem.
Pieces begin falling in place on Tuesday, when Crony General Alberto Gonzales emphatically laid blame for the U.S. Attorney Firing Scandal at the feet of his former #2 man at the Justice Department, McNulty, with extremely little blowback.
However, Gonzales' attempted deflection got washed over by the news of another former Deputy Attorney General, James Comey - serving under Attorney General John Ashcroft - and his testimony before Congress that Gonzales, along with former Chief of Staff Andy Card, attempted to get a ailing and hospitalized Ashcroft to sign off on the Bush Grindhouse's illegal wiretapping.
This didn't go unnoticed by the White House, and soon, according to sources, the plan to begin blaming McNulty, and others, were being drawn up.
Pinning the blame on McNulty for Wolfowitz's lack of ethics was actually the second option, according to a party close to the West Wing.
"The first choice was retired Lt. Gen. Philip Kensinger, from the Pat Tillman cover-up, but Kensinger balked at it ... I don't think he really understood what the White House was trying to do, not grasping the concept of crossing these scandals, but he knew enough to say no ..."
Other names that were drawn up for possible scapegoat usage for the World Bank and Wolfowtiz included former Vice President Chief of Staff I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, the convicted "King of K Street", lobbyist Jack Abramoff, former FEMA Director Michael Brown, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nation, John Bolton and even former Bush Domestic Policy Advisor Claude Allen, who resigned from the administration after being charged with shoplifting.
Bolton, our sources told us, exploded in anger with the notion of taking blame for "that candy-ass wus".
Vice President Cheney deflected any comment on the new "blame strategy", only saying that "it appears one of the heroes of the Iraq war is in his final throes."
With no movement today, either by the World Bank, or by Wolfowitz, who is asking for $375,000 to leave his post, it is not known if pinning the scandal on McNulty was implemented or not.
"This is a very fluid situation," offered David Aaronson, editor of 'What Color Is My Coat Today?', the Capital Hill Newsletter that tracks politicians who turn on their own party.
"With the way things are lining up against the Crony General," continued Aaronson, "he could end with the entire mess pinned on him."
